I am happy to offer a variety of courses for 2010. There are courses for almost everyone who wants to learn the art of Thai massage. Members of BCRPA will be issued CEU's for their participation.
The 60 Hour Course
Each day starts with an optional yoga class to help participants become more flexible and energized. Massage demonstrations and practice follow.
Emphasis will be on maintaining proper body posture, using body weight for leverage, flowing from one exercise to the next, choosing correct exercises for the client, using uniform pressure and speed, developing an awareness of energy, and finally working in a caring, compassionate and focused state. The instructors will work closely with participants, making sure technique is correct. With effort, focus, careful note taking, and plenty of practice, skills will improve.
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have the tools to give a basic Thai yoga massage. They will receive an illustrated manual and a Certificate of Attendance from the International Society of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Registered Massage Therapists are eligible to earn credits for BCRPA.
Workshop dates for 60 hours for 2010:
- August 21 to 29, 2010
- November 13 to 21st, 2010
Course Fee: $895.00

Gordon Waselnuk has been studying and teaching meditation for over 15 years, making annual trips to Thailand. In 1999 he began studying Thai yoga massage with various schools and masters in Thailand. In the past three years he has been an assistant teacher with Asokananda, author of The Art of Thai Yoga Massage and founder of the Sunshine School and Network. Gordon is an authorized teacher as recognized by the International Society of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage. He teaches part-time at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, conducts workshops and has a private practice in Vancouver.
General Workshop Details
When teaching Thai massage all workshops will focus upon:
- Body Posture - is very important to prevent injury to yourself and clients.
- Suitability of Exercises - learn to assess where your client is flexible or inflexible and choose appropriate stretches. You want to achieve a deep stretch but not beyond their capability.
- Learn to Flow - movement from one exercise to another with minimum disturbance.
- Focus with a Caring Intention - keeping a steady pace and pressure to further relax your client. When the client is very relaxed you can provide a deeper massage.
My Studio
I am fortunate to own a large live/work space with 17 foot ceilings where I see clients. It is spacious, filled with plants, and has beautiful light with mountain views. In the evening I have soft lighting and candles and a variety of background music to enhance the massage.
My loft space is centrally located on East 1st Avenue and Scotia Street, a few blocks east of False Creek and Science World. It is near public transit and the TransLink SkyTrain. It is very easy to find parking which is not restricted. I work on a sliding scale and I would be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have. I wish you all a wonderful journey of spirit and discovery.
I also supply loose Thai clothing that is used in massage and have a selection for those who wish to purchase them.
Questions about workshops or scheduling massage appointments can be e-mailed to Gordon or by calling 604-873-4734.
